After she diverts a cattle stampede that was headed toward Ponyville, the townsfolk hold a ceremony in her honor, where her close friends champion her helpfulness. Big McIntosh doubts her ability to complete the seemingly insurmountable task, but Applejack is determined. In the episode Applebuck Season, she insists on tackling the annual apple harvest all by herself while her brother Big McIntosh recovers from an injury. ![]() Diligence " This is your sister Applejack - remember? The loyalest of friends and the most dependable of ponies?!" - Applejack, talking to her brotherĪpplejack is a brave, reliable, strong, mature, and hard-working pony, although headstrong about doing things on her own. In Applebuck Season, Twilight calls her "A.J.," a nickname that is used again by Spike in Boast Busters, Big McIntosh in Winter Wrap Up, Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash in The Last Roundup, and Pinkie Pie in MM Mystery on the Friendship Express. Applejack is the first pony to have her name abbreviated in the show. Spikecalls her "Apple Teeny," pronounced the same as appletini, an apple-flavored alcoholic cocktail. In the episode Bridle Gossip, poison joke causes Applejack to shrink. ![]() She shares some personality traits with the G1 pony named Starlight.Īpplejack is also the name of a strong alcoholic beverage produced from apples. Voice actress Ashleigh Ball has cited country singers Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire as inspiration for Applejack's voice and dialect. Faust used the character's G1 color scheme, abandoning the dark red color from the G3 toy line. Faust intended to use more characters from the first My Little Pony series, but Hasbro did not maintain the trademarks to nearly all of the original character names and most names had to be replaced. Lauren Faust, the show's developer, was inspired to create Applejack by her childhood toy G1 pony Applejack. 5/10.Concept of Applejack back in 2008 by Lauren Faust.Īpplejack is one of the only two members of the main cast who were part of the original My Little Pony cast in the 1980s animated series, the other member being Spike. Overall, an improvement but could have been a lot better. The character writing is also rather simplistic outside of Applejack. Soul and charm in the story is scant, and while it is a little more eventful than with the previous two episodes the story is still over-simple and is very predictable. The writing on the whole lacks imagination and is generally not particularly funny and lacking in maturity. The music is like cheesy high school quality and never fits with what goes on. Indicative of rushed deadlines and low budget. There is nothing imaginative or vibrant about the animation, which is rushed and careless looking throughout. However, too many of the faults seen before are here. The voice acting is very well done, have never had a problem with Ashleigh Ball's voice acting as Applejack and still don't. Also thought that there were a few mildly amusing moments, Applejack's more self aware humour is less out of place now that she is the main focus. The moral is one of 'Pony Life's' better ones, it is not a new one but it is more universal and relevant and is not delivered as simplistically or heavy handedly. She is also in character, unlike Rainbow Dash in the previous episode. Did like Applejack's character development, she comes over as likeable in a relatable situation and her flaws weren't exaggerated (unlike Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash) in the previous two episodes). It as an overall episode was a rather mixed bag though and still wasn't particularly good, with some improvements but also with too many of the flaws that burdened the previous two episodes. ![]() Of 'My Little Pony: Pony Life's' episodes, "How Applejack Got Her Hat Back" is one of the better ones. "How Applejack Got Her Hat Back" did a nice job with her and is an improvement on the previous two episodes "Princess Probz" and "Best of the Worst" (neither of which worked for me at all). Was interested in seeing how she would be developed. In 'Friendship is Magic', the episodes that centered around her and/or her family were the most hit and miss of the six. There were times where she was likeable and entertaining, there were also other times where she was too stubborn and that was taken to extremes. Of the six main 'My Little Pony' characters, Applejack to me was always the most inconsistently characterised. ![]()
